As a follow-up to our walking classroom podcast on the harvest feast shared by the Pilgrims and the Wompanoag Indians, commonly known as "The First Thanksgiving," students rotated between three stations. In the first station students wrote about, and discussed, interesting information they learned from the podcast. At the next station students identified inaccuracies in a stereotypical picture of the harvest feast. Lastly, students drew pictures of their mental image of the first Thanksgiving before and after listening to the podcast. Mary and Molly completed their research on modern dance and designed a poster with pictures and information they gathered in their research.
For his genius hour project, MJ researched different designs for aliens made out of play-doh. He used the designs he found online to start, and he used his own creative thinking to modify the designs, and come up with some of his own creations.
Students are all at different points in their genius hour projects. Some are still gathering the information they need to complete their projects. Others have the information they need, but they are organizing it, and developing a practical plan for executing their projects, while others have already begun working on their projects. Students' project topics include:
-a website about mastering Madden '15 -reconstructing bratz dolls to look more realistic -life in the deep sea -toothpick architecture and engineering -a website about common video game glitches -designing an effective paper football field and paper footballs -making Play-Doh aliens -modern dance characteristics, choreography and costumes -designing a rocket that can launch with baking soda and vinegar -making a scented teddy bear model out of clay |
